A couple weeks ago after a huge storm, I found this baby bird drowning in a puddle, he was totally bald, I think I found him at 4 days old and now he is about 25 days old. I called the humane society to find out what I should do, so I have been feeding him and he is doing great.
He comes back to the yard for food and at night I made a little house for him that he sleeps in, but during the day when I am not home, he is off being a bird. He has went up to my neighbors, because he is not scared of people, I dont want him to get hurt by someone not expecting a bird to land on them. I am pretty sure that he just stays in the surrounding yards and doesnt go to far, is it true that birds stay kinda local to their nest?
Also this is the bad part, when I have company, he has been like dive bombing them, to where we cannot sit on our patio.. what should i do???
Well, you saved a baby bird and hand fed it for long time, so now it is not afraid of people. This is almost unaviodable. I saved two baby robins and I took them to Wild Life Rehabilitation Center, but they don't take starlings, because they are not considered wild life. So, you did the best you could. How they do it in these rehab centers to avoid the birds to attach to people is that they keep all the babies in one huge cage together and hand feed them from the little window in the cage, so that the birds don't see that a person is feeding them. You obviously couldn't do that. Anyway, your starling has rather unusual fortune and of course it is and will be an unusual bird. The only thing you can do now not to handle it anymore and don't let it come close to you - I know it's tempting since you are attached, but it will help it to adapt to wild life. Well, I don't know what you should do about "dive bombing" - it's pretty funny, but I am sure your friends will understand - it's so cute! I think if you keep distance from the bird, it will get used to be wild, because it will communicate with other birds.
