I have two boys, 5 & 2. They both like to play pretend. We are redoing the playroom, getting rid of the baby toys and making it more big kid friendly. We sold the old toys so that my husband could build them some cool new things. So far he's built them a lego table, a workbench, and a fridge. He's going to also build a stove and sink. Whenever I tell a family member or friend about the kitchen part, they act like that is the weirdest thing. What is wrong with boys using a play kitchen? They like to pretend to cook, play restaurant, etc. Plus adult males usually need to know how to cook, right? They also have a male doll with clothes to put on it, some build-a-bears with clothes (mostly batman outfits and army outfits, but still), some bead necklaces in their make-believe bin, etc. So anyway, what is your opinion on boys having supposedly girl toys?

There's nothing wrong with it at all. A lot of people think that if boys want to play with anything feminine, they must be gay, but that's just not true. It's good for your boys to play pretend like that, it helps prepare them for the real world. They need to be able to cook for themselves and such, there's nothing wrong with it. Just try not to pay attention to what anyone else thinks.
Kids that young usually don't have a gender identity yet either. My brother used to want to paint his nails and play with barbies and all that good stuff (though keep in mind he also had 2 older sisters) and he grew out of it and likes boy things now. There's nothing wrong with it.
