Is this a good cage for a Sun Conure?
Will this cage work for a sun conure?
http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Bird-Parrot-Cage-Cockatiel-Conure-Large-32-x20-x53-/260493664361?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3ca6a1e069
The size is great but the bar spacing is too narrow for a sun conure. The bird needs to see out without obstruction and 3/8'' bar spacing won't allow the conure to see out properly. Bar spacing for a sun conure should be 3/4''.
This cage is a finch/budgie flight cage not a conure cage. The cheap wire also won't last for a conure as they are more heavy duty on the bars. This is a wire cage with epoxy painted finish which will peel over time. Conures love to bathe and any cage housing a sun will get wet often and this will promote the epoxy peeling off the cheap thin wire.
Find a cage at least 24" square with 3/4'' bar spacing with a baked on powder coat finish. This cage will allow the conure to see out through the bars with an unobstructed view and the steel bars with powder coat finish will last.
Also you want to consider the space between the cage pan and the grate. Conures will reach down through the grate to try to pick up food that is on the bottom and yuck, the food could have poop on it. This cheap wire finch flight has about one inch space between the pan and the grate which is so easy for a conure to pick up food on the floor of the cage which could have poop on it.
A parrot cage will have at least 3-4 inches between bottom grate and pan making it not possible for the conure to fish food off the floor which could be pooped on.
This cage is a finch flight cage not a small parrot cage.
