Basketball is a sport composed of mastery in different skills to make you the better player over your opponents. That is why basketball passing drills can help you develop better fundamentals in the game and enhance your overall abilities, coupled with practice in different ball handling moves and shooting drills.
Passing is an important skill in the game. Poor passes lead to needless turnovers that you can avoid if you only knew how to pass responsibly. This can especially hurt when it's crunch time and you need to make one last play to win the game. Using basketball passing drills can help you avoid becoming the weak link in your team.
Let's go over two basketball passing drills I can teach you to help you become the better player.
1.) It's You and the Wall
This is one of the basketball passing drills you can do alone. It's a great drill to get warmed up and it helps your accuracy and proficiency at using the different passes.
Paint or tape three X's on a big and solid wall. Make sure they are a fairly distant and in different heights. Then stand back ten feet and try to hit the X's using different basketball passes such as the two-handed chest pass, two-handed overhead pass, and two-handed bounce pass. Try to hit different targets every pass and attempt to make ten hits before moving on to another kind of passing.
When you've completed all passes, take a rest and continue with your other passing drills. During the next session, move back five feet and do the same drill again. When you have completed this, move back another five feet during the next practice and maintain the twenty feet from then on.
2.) The Triangle
Okay, for this drill, you will need at least two more people. Have each of your teammates stand ten feet apart and form a triangle. The objective is to pass the ball around using a particular passing type before switching to another kind passing. Make sure you go over the different passing kinds: the two-handed overhead pass, two-handed chest pass, and two-handed bounce pass.
The catch is that you get to decide what direction you want to send your pass to. This means you don't have to follow a particular direction, you get to choose if you want to pass the ball to your right or left. Remember, this is a fast-paced drill so make sure you pass the ball quickly, the moment you receive it.
This drill enhances your passing abilities and helps you refine your anticipation of the ball and reaction time. It's great since you'll be helping out your teammates as well. Try to make things more challenging by providing a consequence for the one who can't catch the ball first.
These basketball passing drills are great additions to your normal drills to help you build your fundamentals and make you a better player. Just don't forget to practice ball handling moves and shooting skills to help enhance your other skills too.
