The wren is a ubiquitous bird found throughout North America, and their historical relevance traces back at least as far as Aristotle, who noted ancient legends about these 'kings of birds". They are in the Troglodyte family of animals, meaning "cave-dwelling", and it's very apparent in the design of the modern wren birdhouse.
Wren bird houses are mainly designed for winter wrens and house wrens, the two species most often associated with humans, and are very symmetrical and deep, resembling a crevice or cave. - Wren houses often have removable bottom panels for easy annual cleanings
