I think the bird is a yellow-naped Amazon parrot. I'm also a little scared of him, since this is my first bird-sitting experience. (I'm not a professional pet-sitter, just doing this as a favor) I try to be as calm and friendly as possible when changing out his water/food dishes, but he just seems nervous and lunges at me sometimes. Don't expect a parrot to warm up to you the first time it meets you. Parrots are known for being particularly finicky about who they like, and sometimes they will never ever like you. I have had my red-lored amazon for over a year, and he still behaves exactly like the bird you just described.
It sounds like he is being territorial. His behaviours of aggitation/aggression/excitement, but not fear. He is trying to scare you off. Ask the owner if they know anything that you might do to bribe him. My bird will come for Lafeber's Nutri-berries every time.
Hopefully the owner isn't expecting you to handle the bird much. Your best plan right now is to NOT try to hold him. Just talk to him and act calm around him. Maybe he will get used to you over time.
