Due to the many reports of people getting burnt or houses being burnt down during thanksgiving meal preparation safety is a big deal. You must first learn to properly use the deep fryer as this is extremely important to safety of your home and yourself.
You must first get the right size turkey depending on the number of persons you are catering for. Make sure the turkey is properly thawed and thoroughly seasoned to taste. You can make stuffing if desired.
Ensure you have everything you need and wear a mitten and apron to protect your hands and clothing. Use a kitchen towel to thoroughly dry the turkey and add your favorite spices inside and out. Take out the neck, and other parts that are stuffed inside the turkey so you can properly rub seasoning on the inside.
How to fry turkey should begin with properly setting up the fryer and ensuring you place the proper amount of oil in it. Do not place too much oil as this will cause oil to spill over and because you must ensure the oil is very hot at the required 350 degree Fahrenheit temperature you want to make sure none will spill.
Use the wire clutch to place the turkey slowly in the hot oil. Make sure the turkey is covered with the oil. The bird should be cooked dependent on the size. You should check the packaging which will tell you how long to cook the turkey based on its size if not allocate 3.5 minutes per lb of turkey. Use a thermometer to test doneness. The turkey will be done when a thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh meat, without touching the bone, registers 180 degrees Fahrenheit.
Be extra careful when taking the turkey out of the hot oil. Raise the basket high enough so that the oil can drain from the bird's cavity before you place the turkey in the container. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes before it is carved.
Never fry turkey on a porch or in an enclosed area. Make sure the surface is level to prevent the fryer from tipping over. Do not fry on grass or wooden area. Concrete area is safest.
