i am almost 13 and have a young 3 month old cockatiel and i want to make him a play gym/stand type thing. I dont want to buy one though for several reasons- i make $10 a week and would have to pay with my $ which would be hard because they are so expensive, if i make 1 my parents will pay for most of it, and i could custom design it to better suit my bird. I already use birdsnways and tailfeathersnetwork. does anyone have any ideas or pictures? anything will do thanks

I just went to a bird expo yesterday and there was a person there selling bird gyms that were the cutest idea: it's a wicker basket with the handle wrapped tightly in twine and some toys tied on around the edge and hanging from the handle. We bought one and both my cockatiel and my green-cheek conure love it! The bird can perch on the handle or the edge, or get into the basket and play there. You put a couple of paper towels in the bottom of the basket, so you can just change the towels out when they get dirty.
You can get wicker baskets most anywhere--Wal-Mart or thrift stores, etc, for just a couple of bucks, and decorate it with toys your bird already has, or homemade toys or whatever. Cheap, easy, a snap to clean, and easily replaced when and if your 'tiel chews it up!
