The Black Cockatoo is a strikingly beautiful bird. The black plumage makes it very different from one's usual image of the Cockatoo and the band of red on the tail makes it even more distinctive. But before you decide to adopt this beautiful parrot, here are 7 things you should know that will help your choice be once and forever.
Appearance - A striking parrot with black feathers and red tail panels make it a stunning to watch. Their crests tend to be short and stubby, and they have wonderfully elongated tails. Females and young birds have yellow spotted heads, necks and wings, stripes of yellow on their breasts and red across the tail. Mature males are completely black except for a red band on the tail. Most are bigger than the Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoo and range in length from 60 to 72 cm (24 to 28 inches).
Human Interaction - These parrots make excellent companion for an owner who can dedicate a fairly large amount of daily interaction with the bird. But they will more than repay that attention with love and devotion. Giving the proper amount of attention will keep your pet emotionally and physically healthy. If you already own other pets or have small children, think carefully before deciding on this bird. It may be okay with those in your family, but it may not. Life Span - With proper care, they can live as long as 100 years.
