Beginning with the time of Noah and the Ark, the communication between man and beasts have been broken. Humanity has lost all sense of communion with all of nature as all the birds and the beast are running away in fear of men. We are lucky to have a few animals that remain that we have domesticated which are dogs, cats and other farm animals.
However in this day and age of global warming and massive environmental problems, we have to recapture the spirit of man before the time of Noah and restore the lost harmony and communication we have with animals. One of the things we can do in this direction is to set up wildlife feeders in our gardens so that birds and animals who are already suffering from displacement and deforestation will be welcome near our homes. The least the we can do to help these wayward animals is to give them an advantage where they can survive the environmental problems wrought by our own hands. It is a small price to pay for our bad deeds. Wildlife feeders in our gardens and parks will attract different species of birds and animals and can actually create a pleasing sight where man and animals can live in peace and harmony together.
It is so easy to set up an apple bird feeder even our children can enjoy doing it. Much more an enjoyable sight is to see birds feeding on the food we laid out for them. In our gardens, we can put up bird feeders in natural terra cotta form, and these can not only beautify our garden but also bring it to life with many birds singing in the air.
At night we can set up wildlife feeders for bats also. Bats are friendly beings and our culture just made them fearsome creatures. In reality they are harmless creatures in the night. We can also decorate our window sills with wildlife feeders so that different species of birds and other creatures can come to eat. This is one way of increasing biodiversity and communicating with animals. Soon they will get accustomed to us and will never fear us anymore. There are plenty of stories which relate how even the wildest of animals such as the lion was able to recognize the face of her human friend.
There are bird feeder tubes that can be conveniently located on a plant or a tree. Bird trays are pleasing to look at. Bird hoppers can provide a little variety. There are also a lot of stores which sell different kinds of feeds for different kinds of wildlife that we can encounter near our homes. You will be surprised as hummingbirds, sparrows, bushtits and even squirrels come and grace your garden as visitors and guests. If you get lucky you can get a glimpse of migratory birds from time to time.
Giving food to animals is not only a hobby. It can also remove stress and you can actually enjoy life by simply giving. And we receive more than we anticipate - this is peace of mind and communion with nature. It is actually a hobby that can refresh our souls.
