Cockatiel Vs. Lovebird?
I am thinking about getting a bird. My choices were cockatiel, lovebird, or canary. I will be gone at school all day, so what should I do? One bird or two? I also want it to bond with me, however. What are the pros and cons of male vs. female with whatever bird you think I should get? Also, If I buy a two year old cockatiel and a cockatiel from somewhere else and put them in the cage at the same time will that work, or will I have to quarantine them?

I have a cockatiel and i absolutely love him. I got him as a baby and I was only 10 at the time, now i am 19 and him and i still have a really strong bond. i taught him to say hello, sing songs, whistle, laugh, make dial sounds like a telephone, cough and sneeze, and he makes some other noises too. At one other point i got another cockatiel and my original one hated it. he got kind of depressed and tried biting the other one. he wont let anyone else hold him really besides me but that is because i got him in the summer as a baby and spent a lot of time with him. then when i got home from school i would spend a lot of time with him too. males are a lot more clingy to females i think. they also have prettier colors, because they are brighter. i would suggest just getting one, so there arent any fights and you dont have to divide your attention. however if you were to get a lovebird i would say 2 because they do go in pairs. but i would definitely not suggest a canary at all. they dont really learn to do anything and you cant really hold them like you can cockatiels or lovebirds. so like i said i would definitely suggest the cockatiel, and i would only get one, and i would not suggest getting the 2 year old one, i would look somewhere else and get a baby because that is when they bond with you really well. if you do get one and you dont want to wait until the summer, which is what i would suggest just so you could spend more time with it, then at least get it over vacation so that you at least have a week with it. i hope this helps!
