Garage door opener installation can be successfully accomplished even without professional help. All you need is a little know how and the assistance of the right tools. Basically, there are different types of rails used in garage door openers. Newer models typically use T-shaped rail. If you happen to purchase an opener using the T-shape rail, the first thing that you should do is to properly align the T-shape rail in place. Once done, be sure to securely bolt them together. After which, align the idler pulley and then secure it at the end of the guide rail of the door opener.
Next, get the trolley and then carefully slide it unto the rails so you can now bolt the rail on the door opener. Slip a screwdriver in the hole of the trolley to secure it in place. Then, attach one of end of the belt chain using the included hardware. Be sure to wrap the chain around the idler pulley and also around the opener's sprocket. After that, attach the chain to the other side of the pulley.
You need to open the garage door to determine the highest point that the door needs to travel above the installed tracks. Be sure to add 2 inches in the acquired measurement. The marked area is where you will place the opener's header bracket.
Once you have attached the head bracket, close the door and then connect it to the end of the idler pulley's assembly. Make certain that you lift the pulley assembly to ensure that the rail is above the opener's track. Again, open the door and raise the door opener until it is 2 inches above the door; do this with the use of shims.
Get the mounting bracket and connect it to the existing joists in the garage ceiling using the lag screws. And then, attach the door opener to the bracket with the aid of the mounting brackets that come with the unit. After which, install the door controls and other remaining components to complete the garage opener installation. Finally, test the garage door if it is fully functional.
