why isn't my bird amused?

he can say 2 words hi and by and he loves humans if he didn't have us he would go crazy some animals need humans like dogs do

Whether a bird is ready to mate at four months old depends upon what species of bird it is that you have.

If your bird wants to interact, get him interactive toys, like the "Budgie Buddy" (only good up to size conure), a Wordy Birdy, and interactive videos/cds that stimulate his social side. Here are some ideas -- you can even find some of these toys a little cheaper at your local pet store:

Foot toys are more the style of some birds. The cool part about these is that it's not a pain in your butt to pull them out of his cage to play with them together:

If he wanted to mate, he would be openly aggressive and a little confused, and he would hit on you constantly. I'm not telling you to rule it out as a possibility, but unless he does the birdie love dance -- breast out, wings curled and held out from his sides, so that they form a bare little heart shape where they part on his back -- and pukes all over you constantly, he's probably not breedy. Some birds just need to learn how to play.

Try playing with his toys in front of him, and get him foot toys, and things that the two of you can play with on the floor. Enjoy the toys; don't focus on him while you play with them. If there is one thing your bird wants, it's whatever you have, and seeing you model playing behavior will turn him onto playing. In fact, when I socialize my babies, I spend a few weeks showing babies how fun toys are. The result is that I have healthy babies who love toys.
