I have 52 hens, a mix of New Hampshire Reds, Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rock and Americaunas (sp?) that are from the ages of 9 months to 3 years old. I only get 3-6 eggs a day, even in the summer. One day, I actually got 12, but that was only once. They have proper nesting boxes, feeders, waterers, light bulb now that its darker. I have asked everyone and can't figure it out. I feed them a mix of layer pellets and cracked corn, mostly corn. I also give them greens when I can. HELP!!!
You are feeding your birds incorrectly. I'm not sure if this would stop your birds from laying, but it would affect their laying habits. The main feed for a layer should be egg laying pellets, or mash. Scratch should be on the side (about a handful each bird/day) Corn should be used rarely as it isn't good for birds. Birds like it and it puts on weight, it offers no real nourishment. If your birds do not have access to greens at all times, you should have crushed oyster shells for them. This will supply them with the calcium they need to lay their eggs.
Feed, water, and oyster shells should be available at all times.
Do you deworm, and check for lice/mites? All of the above can suck the energy right out of your fowl.
Besides this you may have an egg muncher. Check the hens themselves to see if they have any egg on them. You may also have snakes coming in, or even a dog (I have had both) eating them.
Molting...at this time of year the girls tend to molt. This typically puts a halt in egg production. Hens, also don't lay as much after their second year.
