Laid eggs. There was no nest box ,but we have this coconut toy that's hollow and, well, nest like I guess. This was totally and completely unexpected, but we couldn't just throw the eggs out, so I've been doing research like crazy and running around and talking to breeders and vets. But I still have a few questions.
After the budgies hatch, how soon is it before you can hold them? I want them to grow up hand tame, even if their parents are not, but I don't want to hold them too early (There are 5 eggs, 1 I believe is infertile) and what food should I start giving my hen? What about after the chicks hatch, do I feed them, or does momma bird feed them?
Any help at all would be gratefully accepted, and specific help would be completely amazing. Please, nothing copied and pasted from websites - I've probably already read it, and they all say different things. I want your opinion from expierence.
Having anything in a cage that can be seen by a budgie as a possible nesting site is why you now have eggs. Of concern to me is the size of the adopted coconut shell nesting site. Size and where the opening is and how big. You see a nest has to be big enough for both parents and babies and your coconut shell most likely isnt. If the hole into it is too low down or too large you will also have chicks falling out and getting injured.
Breeding birds like birds any other time need to be on the very best diet. Their base seed and water, extras like fruits and vegies, soft food also.
