You can make the most amazing ANYTHING from some one else's junk! Our city has an annual "spring cleanup". It lasts only a few weeks and everyone can put out large items(except refrigerators and stuff like that) along with the usual trash.
This is my personal treasure hunt! I scour the streets for junk I can recycle into gorgeous handmade items I can add to my decor, dress up the garden/patio or give as gifts. I've decided to let you in on one of the projects I've made from these finds.
Maybe, just maybe,it'll help you look at someone else's (or even you own?) trash differently. Then you, too, can ask yourself...."What can I make from this?" Mosaic bird bath
You need:
* large flower pot and matching saucer ( I used a chipped one I found)
* ceramic tile, cut into small pieces or pieces from ceramic dishes ( smashed inside an old pillowcase)
* grout float
* E-6000 or other heavy duty waterproof glue
* tile grout
* tile adhesive
* rubber gloves
* sponge
* bucket for grout ( I used a large bucket from ice cream)
* grout sealer
* towel or soft cloth
Apply a small amount of adhesive on the wrong side of tile or ceramic dish piece. Press onto sides of flower pot then repeat on the indented side of saucer until completely covered and to your liking. Allow to dry and set for 16 - 24 hours.
When firmly set, prepare tile grout according to manufacturer's directions. Wearing rubber gloves and using tile float, draw grout at an angle across tile, forcing grout into spaces between tile or ceramic pieces. Repeat, being sure grout is worked into ALL spaces and gaps. Let dry and set, approximately 20 minutes.
Then using the dampened (but not wet ) sponge, wipe off the excess grout from tile or ceramic pieces. Allow to set 2-3 more hours then repeat until all tile or ceramic pieces are clean. Place the flower pot upside down. Put a generous amount of E-6000 over entire bottom. Set non-tiled section of saucer on top. Press firmly into glue.
Let dry 24 hours. Polish lightly with a dry towel or soft cloth. Apply grout sealer according to manufacturer's directions. Let dry 24 hours. Fill the saucer with water and let the birds enjoy their new bath.
Tip: I found a small ceramic bird and glued it on the saucer rim before using the sealer. A neighbor made 3 in different sizes and grouped them together in her back yard. It was adorable and the birds really seemed to like the idea!
Have fun with it! Use you imagination! See you next time.
