Is it safe to use a cedar nest box for Cockatiels, Parakeets and Finches?
I purchased a set of three different sized nest boxes beautifully made of cedar. Other bird breeders at our bird club said it's not safe due to the aeromatic oils in the wood. Is this true?
Yes it is true, cedar will expose the lungs the oils and eventually kill your birds.
Most tiels and keet boxes are made out of pine, and finch nests are made out of branches and woven. Regular pine shavings are best used inside the boxes and allow the parents to take care of the rest.
The less you interfere in the process, the better your sucess will be.
Take the boxes you purchased and place them for your outside birds.
