In cooking, what is meant for "a cup"...?
For example, i have a recipe like this to make pancakes:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/4 cups whole milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
1 teaspoon vegetable oil
Fresh fruit, butter, and maple syrup for serving
"1 1/2 cups" supposely means one and half cup, but how large is this cup? like a small coffea cup, or a large milk cup, or like a glass of water... thanks vey much.

1 cup is a measuring cup. It's 8 oz volume.
Go to the store and pick up a set of measuring cups for dry measure, and a big, glass 2 cup with a pour spout (commonly you see them made by Pyrex) for liquids.
They are easy to find in kitchen shops and Bed Bath and Beyond stores.
If you are desperate right now, one of your neighbors surely has a set you could borrow for the day.
While you're at it, you might as well get a proper set of measuring spoons, too. The ones you use to eat aren't terribly accurate.
