Whenever you purchase a flagpole for your home or business, a kit is usually included. This kit is defined as a "flagpole kit" and commonly will include snaphooks and covers, (waterproof) halyard, foundation sleeve and a few other parts, along with your flagpole shaft.

Different sized flash collars are readily available for your flagpole. One such flash collar type is the so called "trumpet collar." These collars are applied where a shoe-base is welded to the bottom of flagpoles. Having said that, trumpet collars can be used on in-ground type flagpoles if a higher profile is wanted. Fiberglass has been used for the production of flagpoles and part for years. It has proven itself to be a cost-effective solution to those seeking ways to save on poles and smaller parts. Items produced from fiberglass do not corrode or rust, thus making such products pretty much free of maintenance. Fiberglass is also used for the production of collars. Aluminum flash collars are supplied with fiberglass type flagpoles with specific butt diameters.

Different flagpole systems are in existence in our day. When one chooses to purchase poles the two main options are the single or double revolving (1) internal or (2) external halyard system. Internal halyard type poles have their mechanical parts installed on the inside of the flagpole shaft, where external halyard type flagpoles have a cleat installed on the outside of the flag pole.

The most common type of installation for flagpoles is the in-ground foundation sleeve (method) which calls for about 1 ft of the flagpole to be encased in the ground. The rule of thumb is that for each 10 ft of exposed flag pole, 1 ft is to be encased in the ground as to maintain stability and safety. The diameter of the sleeve should be at least 2 inches greater than the outside diameter of the pole with the area between the flagpole and the sleeve filled with dry sand.
