I live with my child in a 2 bedroom apartment (approx. 850 sq ft). My boyfriend didn't want to be nosey but suggested that I pick up things that are laying on the floor, sofas, etc. My child doesn't put away her stuff after playing so I'm always the one having to organize. There's a lot of clutter but I just don't know where to put all this stuff, which mostly consists of random crafts, toys, etc. Help!

First, you must have a place for everything. Then teach your daughter where to keep her toys and be diligent about having only one toy out at a time and it needs to be put away before another toy can be played with. And, all those toys are housed in her room. Toys with pieces should have their own containers. Go through her toys frequently and weed out things she does not use. Or do what I did with my boys, tell her that if she gets something new, she has to give other less fortunate children a used toy of her own away.
As for other things. I know mail is a biggie for me. So, I bought one of those office wall files. It has three pockets which helps me sort my mail (to pay, to read, to file). I throw all junk mail away in the trash outside, before I even enter the house.
Organize your cabinets and your drawers. Once you have a home for every thing, it is easy to keep the place clutter free. Also, if you clean up immediately after you use something, it does not accumulate and become out of hand before you know it.
Storage organizers are everywhere. Ikea.com, The Container Store.com and home improvement stores along with department stores such as Target have storage solutions. Check the rubbermaid aisle for great see through storage containers.
Maybe put your television on a dresser in the living room so you can use the drawers for magazines and electronic equipment, tapes, videos, cd's or what have you. A wicker chest could house SOME toys, ones without a ton of pieces. Put shelves on the wall and use decorative canvas containers or wicker baskets to line the shelves to store things out of sight.
I suffer from surfaceitis. It seems like if there is a flat surface, something inevitably gets placed there!! Don't do it, put it away!!
