I have a Hovabator incubator with an automatic egg turner, and keep it in my greenhouse. I take the turner out on schedule, and don't open the incubator more than necessary.The temperatures are right, but the humidity is sometimes high. About 1/3 of the eggs I put in the incubator hatch, and sometimes a chick will appear as though its lower digestive tract is not fully developed and the chick dies, but most of those that hatch live and are healthy. Sometimes a few eggs are not fertilized, but that's not common. Any ideas are appreciated.

You need to keep your incubator someplace where the outside temperature remains as steady as possible. In a greenhouse the temperature will be very high during the day and much cooler at night. Your incubator can adjust to try to keep the temperature right inside but it can only do so much. The outside temperature will effect the inside temperature if it is changing a lot. The best place to keep your incubator is in a basement where the temperature remains stable, or in an air-conditioned area would be OK. You are asking too much of your incubator in a greenhouse. Another thing that you have to keep an eye on is that in the last 1/3 of the incubation period the chicks in the eggs are creating their own heat as well. You have to watch so that you can lower the setting of the incubator in the later stages or your temperature will shoot up and cause almost the exact results that you described. Usually the humidity is not a problem unless you let it get too low.
