using branches for a perch for caged birds?
I have Cordon Bleu Finches in a cage and the perches seem to be too large for their tiny talons. The claws are starting to be deformed sideways to accommodate the thickness of the larger perches that came with the cage. I noticed this the last time that I trimmed the nails, so I removed the perches and replaced them with branches from the deadfall in our back yard. Does anyone know of any potential problems with this? Has anyone successfully used branches? When they get soiled they can just be thrown away and new ones installed. It seems like a good idea...
i have. im a vet in training. no im just joking. but i have.that is what i always did. new branches r the best for birds claws. and if ur bird has small claws then u want to get a small branch. not to small other wise they might Circle 2 times and there claws might dig into there mahsteime. or skin u might call it. but if the branch is to big it tries to get a better grip on the branch by spreading there claws which is how its claws been like that. best answer would be very appreciated.
