Take care of your self. It's not difficult. It's as simple as making one good decision at a time; a one degree shift from what you're doing now. Be conscious about how you treat your body or you too may end up selling your bike prematurely and fading away into the pseudo-comforts of your house or truck of with no joy, excitement or adventure. Life is meant to be lived and riding is a big part of your life.
A retired Harley-Davidson executive friend of mine recently sold his motorcycle. He's been riding all his life and he's had more outrageous adventures than most people I know. Why'd he sell his adventure machine?
He said he's 150 lb overweight, he hasn't taken care of himself and he's afraid he can't ride safely. His abilities are severely limited. He's got bad knees along with other troubles attributed to excessive weight and lack of care. Sure he's over 65 years old but it seems his age limitations are not the major contributor to his motorcycling disability.
Harley-Davidson's answer to the rider in this situation is the Tri Glide. That doesn't prevent or fix the problem. It just offers a last ditch effort at enjoying partial freedom and a sales opportunity. Three wheels are not as fun as two wheels. It might just end up being another thing your old lady would have to unload when you die, which may only be a few years away if your unhealthy.
My friend admitted to me that he has a good life but it's not exciting. What a shame. He lived a Harley-Davidson lifestyle. He loves to ride. His house is full of Harley memorabilia. His home is comfortable and well-appointed. But I know he'd love nothing more than to get out and ride and put excitement back in his life. Unfortunately poor health as a result of life-long poor personal care prevents him from being able to enjoy his golden years doing the thing he loves most. Harley's are in his blood and he can't ride. I hate that for him.
I want to ride until I'm 85, maybe even 95 if I can stay fit. I know it's easy to say that now at 48 years old. But I am responsible today for my body and what I do today will effect how much I enjoy later years. There are at least five areas of life that we must properly steward; food and water intake, movement, rest, recreation, and social interaction.
As the saying goes, "garbage in, garbage out." If we attempt to fuel with our bodies with poor food choices our bodies will respond with general poor health. Choose your food more consciously. You don't have to make a big deal out of it, you already know better choices. But you have to commit to conscientious improvement. You will have to dedicate just a little more thought. But with more thought and better decisions comes better outcomes, better health.
If you don't hydrate sufficiently other maladies arise. Simply quantifying how much water you drink will raise awareness and awareness leads to unconscious improvement. Simply fill a jug or bottle and note how much you drink throughout the day. You'll find yourself drinking more water.
Exercise sounds like work and work sounds like something I don't want to do. So I suggest that we simply increase our movement. Yes if we simply move our own body weight more we can consider it beneficial to our health. Walking is said to be the body's best exercise. Yet most of us rarely do anymore walking than from our house to the garage and then into work or the store. Make an effort to create a habit of walking. It's the habit I suggest you build first. Start by walking down your driveway daily. Add more distance as you become comfortable with the walking habit. Next week it may be to the corner or around the block. Next year you could be walking a few miles every evening.
Sleep is the way in which our bodies recharge and reboot. Without sufficient sleep our body pulls energy from other functions of our complex being. There are many systems at work within our body and each requires energy. Without sleep there is no recharge, systems fail and our batteries die. Our daily source of energy comes from food calories. But our life source recharge comes from deep sleep in sufficient amounts.
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Life is meant to be enjoyed so get out and play, what ever that means to you. Chances are that as you aged your recreation has tapered off. Responsibilities and commitments tend to crowd out the extra curricular activities. Don't let it happen. Go out and play. Resurrect some of your youthful activities. But remember to take it slow, you're probably out of shape.
Finally we are social beings. We need social connection and interaction. We need to be in the presence of and with contact from people who can support us, encourage us, challenge us, delight us and entertain us. TV and "social networking" actually prohibits human contact and real connection. As we get out and ride with others we are able to enjoy their company. In the company of friends we can share emotions and relate. It's all good for us.
I want to enjoy life and my motorcycles as long and as fully as I can. Maybe you share the desire and the passion with me. If so challenge yourself a little and improve your self-care. Get help if you need it. And for Pete's sake stop the bad habits as soon as you can. You may not be 150 lbs overweight but then neither was my friend 30, 20, or even 10 years ago. Commit and make a change now! A small step now leads to progress and a long ride tomorrow. Take care of your body and enjoy the ride more.

The Problem
There is an aging population and increasing health problems. Harley riders are aging faster than US population in general. Riders are riding less due to age and ailments. Desire is high but motivation is low both to ride and care for self. Health information not provided directly to riders. Available information is confusing. Information and action often sought only after illness and disease arise - low self-care prevention. Medical community wants to treat symptoms (with medication, surgery and other costly/profitable avenues) verses promote education and prevention.
