Can I put wild birds on a feeding schedule?
I am a senior on a fix income. To reduce the cost of wild bird seeds Could I hang My bird feeder for 4 hours in the AM and then take it down. I can put it up the same time every day as not to confused the birds.I don't go out because I don't drive any more. A 20 lbs of bird seeds only last me about 3 days.
At nearly 7lb of seed a day, these birds sure need a feeding schedule - they must be the fattest on the planet! Slimming is best done slowly; so start them on 3lb in the morning and 1lb in the afternoon, they won't starve nor will they abandon you and the obvious pleasure you get from seeing them every day. After a little while, when the weather is warm, dry with occasional rain, give them a pound in the morning and again in the afternoon. When weather is bad increase by half a pound - they'll love you.
