Cardio exercise - running - causes leg muscle pain - need to loose 5 kgs [11 lbs]?
Hey guys,
I have been working out for the last 3 months. I am 24Yrs/M/6'1"/80Kgs(176lbs). I want to bring down my weight to 75Kgs(165lbs) but i dont know why nothing's helping. I have intensified my running and as a result I get acute pain in my ankles and leg muscles(lower back). This causes lots of other discomforts like ache during the day etc.
Please advise me what to do, I really love running as it helps me reduce stress as well.Since a week I started taking protein in the form of cereal, sprouted seeds, milk etc. Is it ok. How can I run a lot and have lots of stamina and loose weight (not much but just 5kgs[11 lbs])?

Pain in the calves could be relieved by regular stretching after cardio workouts. You may also be developing a bone spur due to repetitive stress or have strained the calf muscles. If they are strained they need some rest, icing, antiinflammatories and a trip to the doctor (you should see the doctor anyway to find out what is wrong). Are you running on large inclines? This may contribute to pain in the calves. Continuing to run while the calves hurt may just be worsening the injury - so get it checked so you can get back to working out! You may have also upped the intensity of the runs too much too soon, which is causing injury to the calf/Achilles tendon or even the lower tibia (bone in lower leg). It may be good to tone it back and up the intensity more slowly. Again, see a doctor (there's an underlying theme to my answer...). Good luck bud!
