I Have A Parakeet Problem?
I got my parakeet about a year ago. I play with her every day, talk to her, feed her, give her water. She has many toys, from mirrors to her swing with a bell on it that she thinks is her hat. (She puts her head under it and starts talking.) Obviously, she is a happy bird. However, whenever I try to let her step onto my finger, she opens up her mouth and will peck if I get any closer. After chasing her around her perch for a few seconds, if I'm lucky, she will step up. However, after 5 seconds on my finger, she will manage to fly back to her perch. I don't get what I'm doing wrong. When she was younger she stepped on fine, but as she got older, she doesn't like me as much. What should I do to get her to stay on my finger?
I've tried feeding her through my palm, she runs away.
You have to keep on doing this to get them use to it. put your finger right above thier feet and she will hop on. if she jumps back off, take out her toys first then do it so she wont get detracted. My parakeet did this all the time and then i did what i told you do you to do and she stays on now. also if you take her out of her cage teach her to stay on your solder and teach her the command "come" by putting her on the cage (outside of the cage) and step away and say "come" and move your hands towards your self. it takes a while for then to learn that but it works so you can use that command to get her to come to you then make her hop onto your finger and dont move your finger.
