If you are like I was for so many years you got up this morning with your mind running full speed ahead with all the things you have to get done today.
If you are a mom, then there is breakfast, get the kids dressed and off to school or day care, then get yourself to work. All the way to work you are planning the day, while maneuvering your way almost on auto-pilot through the maze of traffic on the highways.
After work, it is pick up the kids, rush home, fix dinner, get homework, get baths and then finally you drop exhausted into a chair for just a few minutes of quite time. Not long though because you may have clothes to wash, the kitchen to clean and your own bathe to complete.
If you are a business man then you likewise are probably thinking about your work day while you are getting dressed and all the way in to work. Then the day is filled with meetings, problems and so often it extends way past the 8 to 5 timeframe.
Did anyone in the family even know that the birds were singing a beautiful melody all day? Probably didn't even hear the first note even though they were chirping all around you.
Did you stop to feed the little birds hoping in all the bushes outside your home or even your office. Did you stop and point out a beautiful bird to your young child and explain what kind of bird it was and encourage them to listen closely to the song the bird is singing.
Was there a beautiful sunrise this morning? So, many city dwellers can't even see the sunrise because of the interference from all the tall buildings around.
Did you stand in awe of the full moon and the deep blue sky filled with bright stars? Did you sit out under those stars with your family and talk about the names of them?
Were you enjoying the cool shade of a big oak tree today or the steamy heat of a hot pavement?
God has given us so many relaxing, beautiful,free pleasures that we have just become too busy to even enjoy. And the sad part is that so many people are not even passing these wonderful pleasures on to their children.
Might I encourage you to consciously force yourself to look for just one bird today? Take a moment to think about what kind of bird it is. Concentrate on its beauty and listen for its song. If you have children point the little bird out to them and encourage them to listen to it sing. It is beautiful, free entertainment given to you by its creator.
