Red finches take many bird watchers by surprise. As many stand and look out their windows they are used to seeing the yellow and brown finches. Then one day they are watching the birds and in pops a rosy red little visitor. Flying around like they have always been there these beautiful birds often take bird watchers by surprise.
Although these sweet birds are not meant nor do well in captivity they are quite handsome to watch. Many photographers will wait for the red finches to appear for the perfect photo opportunity. Many have taken the perfect snapshot and use the snapshots to add color to a design they are already working on or to their portfolios.
For those new to the bird watching community these bright birds are actually not rare. Many do have them around their feeders but have just never noticed them. Once noticed the bird watcher will happen to notice more and more coming to the feeders to eat.
For those that would love to see the red finches up close there is a clever trick. In many discount stores as well as online there are finch feeders that attach to the outside of windows. Usually the feeders are held on with suction cups. As long as there is fresh seed in the feeder the birds will find it. Homeowners will often put these types of bird feeders up on the kitchen windows. It is a nice surprise to be doing the chores or dishes and having these beautiful birds pop in for their meal. Once they get used to seeing you on the other side of the glass these delicate feathered friends may be just as interested in you as you are in them.
Red finches are a vibrant red. Although the finches may have different streaks of brown and black in the patterns the reds cannot be mistaken. They also tend to travel in groups or packs. They are not known to be aggressive birds and tend to get along well with many other types of feathered friends.
