Wouldn't it be easy if you could program for one area and have it all planned out for the year? Or even just have ideas for yourself to use and expand on so that way you're not wracking your brain for every single programming area? Well I think this article is going to help you out. Here are some fun and interesting ways to use play dough, change it up, and I am also adding an awesome recipe for you, too.
Play dough can be fun but it can also be short-lived. Why not try changing things up depending on the seasons, the colors you see outside, and all of the wonderful things you see with the changing of the seasons?
I think I may have some things you can use in your play dough activities that maybe you never even thought of.
Play Dough: Below is a recipe that makes the softest most fun play dough. And the best part is, you will always have the ingredients on hand, you can make different colors every time, and you can use this with any season.
*Spring: Put flower and animal shaped plastic cookie cutters in a basket that the children can use with the play dough. Nice light pastel colors for your play dough are nice for spring (purple, pink, yellow, light blue/green).
*Summer: You can keep the flower shaped cookie cutters and add sailboats, trees, stars, etc. You can make the play dough any color of the rainbow. You can find neon food coloring in the stores which are nice and vibrant for the summer.
*Winter: This one is my favorites. In the winter I like to make play dough without adding in any color. Just leave it white. Then you can add multi-colored sparkles and it will look like a winter wonderland. You can also just use plain silver or gold sparkles as well. Just mix then in when you are mixing up your play dough. You can also do a nice frosty blue color and add peppermint extract for a fresh winter scent as well. You can add snowman cookie cutters, evergreen trees, people, mitts, etc.
*Fall: You can make red play dough, orange, brown, etc. You can add leaf shaped cookie cutters, people, small animals like birds and squirrel cookie cutters.
All year round it's a good idea to always include rollers, child safety scissors, and Popsicle sticks. These items add variety and expand the children's abilities for play in this area. I have also added different colored pipe cleaners on occasions to the play dough center. Their creations are so amazing when they have more to work with. I simply throw out the pipe cleaners when they are done. But we always take a picture of their creations before we clean up. 
Recipe:
1 cup of flour
1/2 cup salt
1 cup of boiling water (add food coloring)
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tbsp. of oil
If you want to add fruity scents, you can add a small package juice mix powder to the water instead of food coloring. This will give you scent and color. Extracts work great as well for a nice stronger scent.
