o older male Amazons (over 3 years old) can be aggressive, especially the hawk-headed parrots
Cockatoos
o most are big compared to Amazons
o very intelligent and extremely sensitive and nervous birds
o possess erectile crests that can raised and lowered at will
o look cute and cuddly

o demand constant attention and may be difficult for most people to take care
African & Timneh Gray Parrots
o commonly medium to large sized pet parrots
o two types of gray parrots, the Timneh Gray and the African Gray (or Congo Gray)
o very sensitive but extremely intelligent birds
o Timneh Grays have great abilities to mimic wide range of sounds including human speech
o quiet in the presence of strangers
o hand-reared parrots are very prone to feather plucking
o can be very loud but rarely a noise nuisance
Macaws
o considered the largest parrots
o smaller ones, like Hahn's and yellow-collared, are noisy but make very good pets
o active, inquisitive and often mischievous
o chatty and able to learn to talk
o powerful beaks that can damage furniture and crash nuts
o large ones may require more aviary space instead of a cage

Conures
o originate from South Africa
o fairly small but generally active and confident
o bright orange and yellow sun conure, Patagonian and blue-crowned conures have loud piercing voices
o very curious but entertaining
o able to talk but posses squeaky voices when using human speech
o happy to sleep in roosting boxes placed inside the cage
o known as 'nippy' birds as they are prone to bite very readily
Parakeets
o "Parakeet" is loosely used to cover a wide range of smaller parrotlike birds
o most come from Australia or Asia
o they are leafy-green colored, ground-feeders spending most of their time on the cage floor
o unlike most parrots, they are not noisy at all
o active and highly social creatures, living in large flocks and kept in aviary
o very independent and so do not bond very well with human
o respond very well to training but poor mimic of human speech
Parrotlets
o smallest of all parrots, about the size of a sparrow
o mainly green in color and quite easy to keep in cages
o need plenty of time to fly around (outside their cages)
o bond well with humans
o voices can be loud at times but they are not noisy birds
Eclectus Parrots
o medium to large sized pet parrots
o males and females have different plumage
o males have bright leaf-green with red and blue patches on their flanks and wings, while females have bright red with patches of purple or blue on their flanks and wings
o body feathers are extremely fine with beautiful colors
o eat a diet of fruits, flowers, buds and some seeds
o do not adapt well as indoor companion birds
o adults can be both noisy and aggressive
o prone to self-plucking behaviors
Lovebirds
o small and active, short-tailed parrots originate from Africa
o best kept in pairs as they do not usually bond with humans as most other parrots do
o posses shrill voices and can make calls at volume
o do not copy human speech
o often kept in aviary rather than companion birds
Cockatiels & Budgies
o most common parrotlike birds and both come from Australia
o natural color of budgies is bright green with fine scalelike pattern of black and white markings above but nowadays, they come in great variety of colors due to selective breeding in captivity over generations
o budgies are not difficult to keep but require a lot of time with its keeper if kept alone
o capable of talking and learning many words and phrases in small, squeaky voices
o very active and busy birds
o cockatiels are larger birds and they make a good pet
o natural color of cockatiels is gray with white on the wings and yellow-orange patches on the head
o able to learn to talk but with loud, harsh voices
