what parrot would be ideal for me ?
im currently unemployed would probably get the parrot once working a 9-5 i would get it out for like half hour in morning and then just let it out all time when im back about 6, i want a parrot that can speak but the most important part is loyalty, affection and intelligence if you could provide some details on the parrot(s) you think would be ideal for me or if a parrot is not ideal i would have probably a small built indoor aviary i have a nvq1 in animal care and lots of experience with animals thanks
many small parrots can be loving and loyal pets. First, I'll mention the "lesser parrots" or parrotlets. Parakeets can be loyal and intelligent, but sometimes, you can get the bad seed as with any species of birds. Parakeets can talk, love to interact with toys, and can be affectionate if they are handled enough. Cockatiels (my personal favorite) in my experience, tend to be more affectionate if they are female, but usually only the male has the vocal capability to speak and can talk quite nicely. Cockatiels can be very affectionate and loyal companions and are always into everything, signifying their intelligence. Then there are the actual parrots. The only ones I have experience with are conures and quakers. Conures can be very sweet, but at the same time can be very loud. Conures tend to have really bright feathers and they do have the ability to talk. We had one at work and he was quite affectionate so I guess it's all in the bird itself. Quakers I had a bad experience with (hunted the house down for my nephew's parakeet and killed him), but other than that quakers, other than their loud screams, can be good pets as well.
The number 1 thing to look for is a hand-fed/raised/tame, healthy bird. Where you go from their is your own personal preference, but the hand-fed ones tend to be more people-friendly and more outgoing.
