is this a suitable conure cage?

i really want a sun conure but I'm not sure what cage to get. i found one that i really like and its in my price range, but I'm not sure if its the right size. i would buy more perches and toys to go in it, but it the size okay? if you have any other suggestions and if you could put a link that would be great. my price range is around 100.00 for a cage. i might be able to go 200.00 but I'm not sure cause the bird itself coasts about 400-500 and all the toys and food and litter will be alot. I'm only thirteen and i have to pay for everything myself, so I'm trying to get a good cage, but not too expensive. i really want my bird to be happy, so if it means i will have to wait and save up for another couple years to get a five hundred dollar cage then i guess i can, but it would be really sad. well, thanks in advance! =D

Hi. I am thirteen too and I have a sun conure. I will tell you the basics of what you need to know.

First off, this cage is too small. I would get him/her a 24" in hiegh by about 22" inches long for the minimum. The bar spacing is also important because too small and your bird can snap the bars and to wide apart, and the bird can get his head stuck. The spacing on my cage is 3/4" and the bars are several mm thick. On the top of my bird's cage, it can open up where a perch holds it open so she can play on the outside of her cage as well as the inside. (I tried to send a picture, but I can't fugure out how.)

Next, the perches. Most cages come with stock perches, the straight across kind. I would only use these when you have to because they do not excerise their feet properly. Get the perches with multiple branches that you put in the side with the cage with the screw and washer.

There should also be multiple toys in the cage that serve different effects. Examples are preening toys, wood chewing toys, and puzzle toys.

I know that I am writing alot, but the birds are important to me.

The most important thing is the diet. The bird should have one small bowl of seed a day. I give mine 1 table spoon of four different kinds of seed every day.

The bird should have fresh fruits and vegetables every day. I prefer organic because it does not have any pesticides which are harmful to the bird.

She also gets some of what we eat too. Healthy stuff only. Ex. conrbread, past with no salt, rice, plain cooked, or scrambled eggs.

Every night, clean all the birds dishes and give the bird fresh seed and water. Then I always cover her cage for bed at night.

Get your bird from a breeder. These birds are tamed and used to people. Let the bird pick you out. That is what Java did to me.

For cleaning the cage use Grapefruit Seed Extract, this will not harm your bird but it will clean a good as bleach. Use 1 drop per ounce.

It is also best to get supplies from an all bird store if one is close to you.

These are just the basics you need, please do further research before you purchase your bird.

Good Luck!
Heather
