Middle back pain when swallowing?
A couple of days ago, I woke up with this pain in the middle part of my back (around the rhomboid muscle area). Since then, I've experienced painful spasms there and breathing difficulties when eating. Basically, pain is so sharp it's almost like I can't catch my breath, but this usually only lasts about 1 second.
Should I be worried about this at all?
abc,
I've heard of this. You are wise to be worried, at least enough to do something about it.
This is almost certainly an issue of sleeping and sitting posture. Try these things:
1. Whenever you sit on a chair, be sure to rotate and sit on the front of your pelvis instead of the back of the pelvis. It is virtually impossible to sit up straight when sitting on the back of the pelvis.
2. Simple rigid back Pushups and Pullups can help with strengthening the correct muscles and keeping the back straight.
3. Don't stick your neck out front. Pull your head back (don't tilt it back) such that you have a bit of a double chin, and make a habit of keeping it there.
4. Start your nights on your back with a pillow under your bottom (to compensate for bed sag) and another very thin one under your back. None under your head. Let your feet hang out to the side.
Try these approaches and see which works best. Keep trying things to improve sleeping and sitting posture.
Good luck ditching the pain,
John
