Well there can be many reasons for parrots behaving badly. One of the most basic and possibly easiest to sort out has to do with your birds cage.
The cage you chose and bought for your parrot, if you bought one at all, may just not be suitable. Screaming, screeching, aggressive behavior, apathetic behavior and even feather plucking can often be tracked back to not having a cage for your bird or to not having a cage that is suitable for the type and size of bird you bought. These unacceptable behaviors very often develop as a result of your birds poor adaptation to the color, shape, position or height of the cage.
Not providing the bird with a cage in the first place is one of the most common causes of cage related behavioral problems. So the first thing is, if you have only given your parrot a perch or playpen, is to get him a cage. One that is suitable for him. The right size, the right height. If in any doubt any professional pet supplier will be able to help you.
If you have already have a cage for your bird then check that it is a suitable cage.
A suitable cage for your bird would be one where, in one direction at least, the cage width is a minimum of one and half times the length of your birds outstretched wingspan. You should have easy access to the food and water trays. It should have a bottom tray at least two inches deep with a metal grill above it.
Ideally though your bird should have two cages. One well away from all family activity where you bird can sleep at night, without distraction, and then a second cage closer to the action which can be used as a playpen or foraging area during the day. All parrots need 11 to 12 hours of sleep a night.
There are many causes and reasons why parrots behave in ways we don't expect or want. The lack of a suitable cage is only one possible cause and may not even be the cause of your parrots behavior.
