Is my turtle tank ok..What can I use as land?
I just bought a plastic tank for my turtle which is around 2 ft long and a feet wide and around 9-10 inches deep....i think its pretty big for it..somehoe my turtle keeps going to the corners and tries to escape..does anyone know why they do that? is there anything i can improvise on?moreover..for the moment, the tank has no land on it...i thought of puuting a stone but i dont know from where i can get such a bg stone coz i want the water to stay a little deep..can someone suggest something to me which i could keep as land?
If i do put a pile of pebbles..im sure they'll keep moving..how do i stick it to the base...a plastic container doesnt stay coz of the water pressure...
Is it necessary to have a basking area..In the afternoonm, it gets pretty sunny at my house and I think my turtle naturally basks...though not under the direct sun..the rays pass through my window...
Also, I feel the water gets a little cold after a while..does it always have to be warm?
Suggestion: wedge a slab of wood in the tank at a slight angle. It is much safer and more stable than rocks are and cuts down less on swimming room. Place a basking light over the dry end. Sunlight that comes through the window will not supply UV rays, which the turtle needs unless it gets a lot of vitamin D in its diet, as from liver. You probably need an aquarium heater too. The water for most turtles should be around 27°C, more if the turtle is tropical. Basking temperature should be about 32°C, again, more for a tropical species.
