I feel that I am doing everythign right for my tennis ground stroke, but I am six foot 3 inches tall and was wondering if with my height I have to do more in my groundstroke?
I play with semi-western grip and follow through, but any advice on where to strike the ball, how to stand ready w/knees etc would be great!
Mastering any stroke in tennis takes hours and hours of repetition.
You mention that your 6' 3" and wonder if you have to do more... more what? You will have to bend your knees more than someone 5'3" to get a low ball. Which is a disadvantage but you have an advantage in serving. As far as your forehand stroke goes - height isn't an issue.
As for where to strike the ball - with a semi-western grip you want to strike the ball out in front of you. Most people are comfortable hitting from thier knees to thier stomach (in height). So moving your feet to keep the ball in your "strike or comfort" area is key to success.
Are you hitting open or closed stance? Closed stance is the traditional style (not that this is bad) and Open stand is exactly that. In Closed - you stride forward with your left foot as you strike the ball. In Open - you stride 45% to the left. For success with both methods, you need to transfer the weight off your back foot to the fore foot as your striking the ball. This will give your ball pace and depth.
