Which bird cage should I get?
My bird, Zeller, needs a buddy, so I have decided to got to PetSmart to get another parakeet, then to Pet Co. for a cage (they have a better cage selection). Zeller has an average sized cage (not big enough for 2 birds). To save money, could I purchase a new bigger cage (maybe this? http://www.petco.com/product/112008/Prevue-Hendryx-Large-Black-Flight-Bird-Cage.aspx#BVRRWidgetID ) , put the new bird in this for the "quarintine period", and once the birds are ready to be put together, wash the cage down really well and move around perches and toys (I have heard that this makes the cage neutral territory), then put both birds in the big cage instead of buying another small cage for quarintine and a big cage for both of the birds. Also, please give me other cage reccomendations. Thanks!:)
I agree 100% with your idea. I think it does save money to buy one new cage to use for both birds once they are ready to be housed together. If you can do that, than there really is no point in buying another smaller cage and than another larger cage for two of them. Plus, cages are pretty pricey in my opinion, so this idea is very good. And yes, doing a little rearranging does help with some territorial problems.
Now the cage. The cage is perfect! It's actually a little larger than it has to be, which is perfect. It is the best shape you can buy for parakeets (the feel more secure when there are four corners to a cage) and the cage also has enough doors which is nice. It is long enough also, so the birds can have flight room. All in all, it looks like a large enough, good quality cage. And that's great because a lot of times Petco and Petsmart don't do so well with having quality bird cages.
All in all, I would say your doing a good job with the new cage and new birds. Good for you for actually doing some research before hand. Good luck with your new baby!
