My dog has a white and red lump on his eye. What is it?
He is a toy poodle, 13 years old. He has cataracts in both eyes and has had epilepsy all of his life. The lump is on the top lid of his right eye. Its width is about a third of his eye and it droops down a little into the eye. At first glance it looks red, but you can also see a white part of it.
My dad wants me to put polysporin on it twice a day because we can't afford to take him to the vet. Would that be okay for a dog?
Rarely can a diagnosis be made simply over the phone. Illnesses and diseases concerning the eye can be very complex. Without a proper diagnosis, a proper treatment cannot be perscribed and when dealing with the eye, you could do more harm than good by self medicating. You should have the pet appropriately evaluated by a veterinarian. An YES - some vets DO charge to answer questions over the phone -- it's called telemedicine.
