I just bought a male cockatiel at Petco on thursday. I started softly talking to him and two days later we sit in the livingroom and all sudden he mumbles "pretty bird" and what sounds like dog barks and cat call whistling. Now i realize he doesnt learn that fast(i think).So i wanted to know if i can find out a bit more about the bird by looking at the ring around his foot. It is a black ring around his right leg, it reads "QPI 1947" in i guess white or engraved letters. What does it mean or where can i find out about it.
I think he is a young bird but not a baby. He does not freak out when i put my hand in the cage, i can even touch his toes and he will come within 3-4 inches of my face when i am near the seed bowl. Oddly enough he is also not afraid of dogs and doesnt mind the cat looking at him either.No he will never be outside the cage with the other pets around or only under good supervsion.
