What parrot food is the best?
What parrot food (small hook-bill) food do you believe is the best and why? I have been told that Roudybush is the best but a breeder that I know swears by Hagen Tropics Parrot food while others say Zupree or Lafeber please give good quality information I am attempting to mix my own food and I want a good quality pellet as the base I do understand that parrots should not only be feed pellets but veggies and fruits plus minimal seeds
Ha ha, they are all good, the real question is what will your parrot eat and enjoy ???! My parrots ate Lafeber Nutriberries for about 10 years, then all of a sudden decided they didn't like them and that was that. I don't know if the formula/ingredients changed or what, but all of a sudden they were treated like poison and tossed out of the bowls and cages. They won't eat Roudybush and will eat Zupreem once in awhile. I give them a huge mixture of dried foods and seeds with shelled and unshelled nuts mixed in, and a healthy mix of stuff like whole grain cheerios, low salt wheat crackers, unsalted whole grain pretzels, animal crackers, popcorn I pop myself with no salt etc. (NOT microwave popcorn, that stuff is bad for humans as well as animals). They also get a big bowl of fresh foods every day, this changes every day as well and contains fruits, proteins like egg or cheese, chicken, chicken bones ( cooked of course), beans, veggies, people food like veggie soup, it depends on what we are eating that day too. Birds love stuff like baked or mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cooked veggies of all kinds, cooked and raw carrots, pastas, whole grain bread, a tiny piece of pizza once in awhile, etc. Remember to never give them chocolate, avocado, onion, mushrooms, and of course easy on junk food. A little taste once in awhile won't hurt.
