What is you favorite small/medium dog breed?
Okay, I am thinking about getting a small dog. Everyone in my house is over twelve and I have a cat and another bigger dog-Labrador. I was just wondering, what is your favorite small/medium dog breed- even if it doesn't fit what I said above.
My personal favorite small/medium dog breed is probably the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever.
I have been in love with the breed since I was a child. I have an uncle that is a breeder of these dogs and he is very active in the show ring and is big on teaching about responsible breeding.
These dogs are a lot of dog in a small package but still have the qualities of most Retriever breeds, but they do require a bit more exercise.
Size: I believe roughly 35-50lbs

I also like the Australian Cattle Dog: Not ideal for a home with young children, and depending on whether or not you get this dog as a puppy the dog may or may not do well with other non canine pets. Remember they are a herding breed and will need lots of mental stimulation and physical exercise. They like to have a job to do.
Size: If I remember correctly around 45lbs
The American Pit Bull Terrier : Yes when bred correctly they are a medium class dog. But they aren't the right dog for everyone. Owning an APBT you will face lots of criticism. They are full of energy and need lots and lots of exercise, and they need an owner that is going to train them and be firm but fair. This breed has been damaged by bad breeding, but a well bred APBT is a joy to have around
Size: Wellbred 32-55lbs
Dalmatian: Due to lots and lots of over breeding and bad breeding this is also a breed that has been damaged. But if you take the time and look hard enough you can still find a good specimen of this breed. A well bred, well trained Dalmatian is a wonderful companion. They are more of a 1 person type dog, and they are full of energy. So lots of exercise for one of these guys too.
Size: 55-60lbs
Jack Russell Terrier: Cute dogs but they are a very big dog in a small body. They are full of energy and need more exercise than some larger dogs. They have been nicknamed Jack Russell Terrors but that has a lot to do with people getting them expecting a cute lap dog and not training them. JRTs are very smart dogs, they love to work and to learn. Probably can't be trusted off leash without running into some issues. Remember they are terriers. Small Terriers but terriers none the less
Size: around 16lbs
Minature Poodle: Again a small dog but not a lap dog. A very intelligent breed, They do wonderful with obedience. I've known several that have made great agiltiy dogs as well. You have to stay one step ahead of them, they are very smart and if they figure out how to walk all over you they will use that. They enjoy walking, running, playing. They enjoy learning. This breed surprisingly needs too good long walks a day and they need some kind of mental exercise as well.
size: I would say between 12-15lbs ( my mini is on the smaller weight of it but measure mini)
