quaker parrot or green cheek conure makes better pet bird?
hi, i want to know is a quaker parrot or a green cheek conure make a better bird. I want a bird that will be nice to me use my finger and shoulder as a perch and let me rub him. It will be my first bird although my cousins have a pet budgie i've seen it before but never held it (it wasn't tame) i have found a green cheek conure breeder in louisana that will have a cinnamon green cheek conure for only 175 dollars, is that a good price? its hand-fed hand tamed. Or do i get the quaker?
---thanks in advanced--- (ps do quakers need a bigger cage with thicker bars than the green cheek or will it do alright in a cage big enough for a green cheek conure?)
This is fantastic- you have to make a choice between two birds I actually own- I know what I would choose!
I purchased my Green Cheeked Conure nearly two years ago- had to wait 6 months to get him- but he was well worth the wait!
Inca was my first parrot, and he is the sweetest, most affectionate, cheeky mischief maker the parrot world has ever seen.
Green Cheekeds dont have great vocal skills (although Inca can speak and vocalise more than my Quaker- his voice is rough and hard to understand) but what they lack in talking ability they definately make up for in personality. Big bird in a little birds body is an understatement. Inca adores attention from everyone- has won over many a bird phobic, and is very cuddly. He LOVES being scritched- especially around his beak and cere. Many Green Cheekeds also like to lie on their backs and sleep.
Quakers are also great parrots. I got my quaker, Connor, as a rescue about 6 months ago. He is adorable. He has issues that he is still dealing with- but I am amazed at how far the clever little parrot has come in such a short time. Quakers can be affectionate, and, like Green Cheekeds, they tend to bond to one person, and can be difficult to socialise. They are highly intelligent, and are excellent talkers.
They are slightly larger than Green Cheekeds- but I keep both of my parrots in cages that are identical and they have plenty of room.
Remember that your bird should live for a long time- so purchase him a good quality cage that is going to last for a while, and be large enough to keep him happy for years to come.
Both birds are not easy to keep- and you should only take them on if you can commit to spending at least 2-3 hours a day playing with them- for the next 20-30 years.
Both species are intelligent and loving, and require a tonne of toys to stimulate and entertain them. A good toy is a toy that is destroyed quickly- and both Quakers and Conures will enjoy destroying their things. So there is definately cost in upkeep.
Both Quakers and Green Cheekeds make excellent pets when they go to the right home. But you need to put in the time and effort.
I chose to have a Green Cheeked Conure first, and I will stick by my descision. Inca is the perfect pet- I cant fault him.
I love Quakers- but I choose the Green Cheeked first every time.
