My B&G macaw is acting strangely...?
I have a pet blue and gold macaw. He has an outdoor perch on my back patio. The bottom of the perch is closed in and there are a lot of woodchips at the bottom as a result of him chewing on the branches that make up his perch.
Recently, (about a few days ago) he started staying at the bottom of his perch all the time. He normally never goes down there. Usually he always stays at the top. I'm beginning to wonder if maybe he is actually a female bird and is nesting. Or maybe, he's just been cold, today the weather started getting kind of cold. I realize that is a tendacy of macaws to want to stay at the highest point possible.
If anyone can tell me why my bird is acting this way, it would be greatly appriciated.
well birds usually try to hide illnesses so it is very difficult to tell if they are sick or not, and usually once they show signs they are very ill by then. it is possible that if it is a female that she wants to nest b/c she has egg/eggs, it is just too hard to say when it comes to birds with out blood work. good luck!
