Regarding trampoline exercises, my first impression of a rebounder or mini trampoline was - this is ridiculous, a waste of time, just a toy. It certainly could not help me to stay healthy - and I don't want to waste my time.
The idea of trampoline fitness brought up all the questions listed below why a mini trampoline should not be the best exercise machine or exercise workout equipment to contribute to staying healthy.
Is Rebounding Really That Good For You?
When I first heard of rebounding, I really thought it was just a pretend mini trampoline toy for children. It actually turned out to be a real surprise for me!
Why I Thought A Rebounder Is Just A Waste Of Time!
1) It doesn't offer anything I don't already do running or weight training! I discovered it provided me with additional benefits to stay healthy.
o Rebounding for longer than 20 minutes at a moderate intensity increases the mitochondria count within the muscle cells, essential for endurance.
o Rebounding adds to the alkaline reserve of the body, which may be of significance in an emergency requiring prolonged effort.
o Rebounding improves coordination between the propreoceptors in the joints, the transmission of nerve impulses to and from the brain, transmission of nerve impulses and responsiveness of the muscle fibers.
o Rebounding improves the brain's responsiveness to the vestibular apparatus within the inner ear, thus improving balance.
o Rebounding provides an increased G-force (gravitational load), which strengthens the musculoskeletal systems of your entire body.
o It also strengthens every cell in your entire body simultaneously, not being limited to only engaging the cells in those muscles being used to run or weight train.
2) I already enjoy all the benefits of staying healthy from running and weight training.
o I realized that rebounding protects the joints from the chronic fatigue and impact delivered by exercising on hard surfaces.
o Also rebounding aids lymphatic circulation by stimulating the millions of one-way valves in the lymphatic system. - thereby greatly enhancing the immune system to stay healthy.
3) Rebounding is not as good as running or weight training for staying healthy. It is only intended to add tremendous benefits to your existing workout, not to replace it. Of course, rebounding is vastly better than no exercise at all. Alternating interval speed running in place on a rebounder with regular rebounder high jumping will do a lot to get you in shape. The higher and longer you rebound the greater shape you will be in.
4) I already am in the best shape from the gym and running. There are many additional benefits to rebounding the gym and running do not fully provide as thoroughly to stay healthy.
o Rebounding circulates more oxygen to all the tissues.
o Establishes a better equilibrium between the oxygen required by the tissues and the oxygen made available.
o Rebounding increases capacity for respiration.
o Tends to reduce the height to which the arterial pressures rise during exertion.
o Rebounding lessens the time during which blood pressure remains abnormal after severe activity.
o Assists in the rehabilitation of a heart problem.
o Rebounding increases the functional activity of the red bone marrow in the production of red blood cells.
o Improves resting metabolic rate so that more calories are burned for hours after exercise.
o Rebounding causes muscles to perform work in moving fluids through the body to lighten the heart's load.
o Decreases the volume of blood pooling in the veins of the cardiovascular system preventing chronic edema.
o Rebounding encourages collateral circulation by increasing the capillary count in the muscles and decreasing the distance between the capillaries and the target cells.
o Strengthens the heart and other muscles in the body so that they work more efficiently.
o Rebounding allows the resting heart to beat less often.
o lowers circulating cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
o Rebounding lowers low-density lipoprotein (bad) in the blood and increases high-density lipoprotein (good) holding off the incidence of coronary artery disease
o Promotes tissue repair.
Because rebounding is so convenient, easy, and efficient and provides so many extra health benefits, I not use my rebounder every day to stay healthy. It certainly is far from being a kid's toy, and it is fun.
