I'm a beach person. I just love going to the beach, being at or near the ocean, and everything about it. But sometimes it's not warm and sunny; in fact it seems to rain far too often. I was at the beach recently with my three little kids and the weather was quite inclement. It was alternately rainy and drizzling, and constantly overcast. But it was summer at the beach which is always fun so here is how we spent the weekend. Perhaps you can get some ideas from out wonderful rainy beach weekend.
So, it's raining; big deal. Rain means you get wet, and you get wet at the beach when you go swimming anyways. As you might guess, we went swimming. It was awesome despite the weather, and we got no wetter than we would have other wise. The kids didn't mind and neither did I, although we did get dry and warm up afterwards as it was chillier than usual.
We also played Frisbee and whiffle ball at the beach. Since we were moving around, we stayed warm and quite honestly it wasn't cold anyways. The kids thought it was just great, although mommy was a little grumpy.
To pacify mommy, we went shopping for school supplies afterwards, and made the kid happy by letting them but some beach toys like shovels and buckets and boogie boards. As you might assume, we headed back down to the sand afterwards despite the drizzle to play with the new toys. We let mom stay dry this time as quite honestly she's not always as much fun or flexible as the rest of us.
At dinner time, instead of eating at the local boardwalk from a stand or two, we found a reasonable Chinese buffet and that took care of dinner.
The next morning it was pouring, so after a leisurely breakfast, we had a quick discussion and ended up going and seeing a movie. Afterwards the rain was merely a steady drizzle so we went to the beach and swam and played just as if it were sunny. The kids didn't mind and neither did I. As long as there is no thunder and lightning nor a major storm, who cares? The beach is simply fun for most all ages.
There is plenty to do at the beach even when it rains, unless you prefer to stay inside and complain. And as an added benefit, we used far less suntan lotion!
