Can anyone tell me anything about this ancient Greek dish? Description in details.?
It looks to be in the white ground technique. Shown is what I assume to be an athlete riding a horse, followed by a flying Nike holding two rings, which might be wreaths (the picture's fairly small, so I'm having trouble deciding if they are). The horse has a long-necked bird riding on its neck, and there are three of the same type of bird below the horse. Then, flying toward the horse is a different type of bird, which I think is a raven. The dish has two handles, is circular, and has a black border around the edge. I believe it's from early Sparta.
Does anyone have any ideas for how to find out more about this? A good museum website, a book that might help (preferably with pictures so I can make a match for sure) or maybe a better way of searching? Google so far has given me nothing.
Thanks everyone for your time!
